The Straits Settlements were a group of British territories in Southeast Asia. Singapore become part of the Straits Settlements in 1826, becoming a Crown colony in 1867. It was during this time Singapore grew exponentially- establishing itself as an important trading post and welcoming an influx of immigrants from all over the world seeking a brighter future.

The Straits Settlements stamp in this artwork is based on an actual stamp produced from 1937 to 1941. Featuring King George VI, this is the last stamp series of the Straits Settlements.
