Singapore's Black and White bungalows were originally built during the British colonial days and are located in various parts of the Island. Hidden in the thick jungles of Singapore they seem to carry with them stories of the past. It is because of these stories, that are still lingering on in these old grand houses, that I chose them as my subject matter to be depict through this series of art works. Through these Black and Whites I hope to share more of the stories that Singapore has to share.
Named after Princess Alexandra, wife of Edward VII, the villas at Alexandra Park were built to accommodate the British officers based at the Alexandra Barracks.
The Black and White Bungalow in this artwork is located at 1 York Road.
