All of the Lights
H120xW70cm
Acrylic Painting, Silkscreen Printing, Foil, Chinese Brocade Fabric Applique & Stitchwork on Canvas
Inspired by the infinite rows of fluorescent lights along the shophouses in Chinatown at twilight, ‘All Of The Lights’ is a celebration of the vivacious vitality of friends and family that is uniquely Singapore. The Png Kueh - a blessing for life, luck, and longevity - acts as a metaphor for the effervescent energy of the evening skies. The Chinese silk brocade with cherry blossoms and bamboo motifs mimic the fluorescent neon signs that illuminate the bustling street, like the sparkling starry sky at night. This artwork hopes to shine in an auspicious light and usher joy to you and your home.
The photograph used in this artwork of a row of well-preserved Peranakan Shophouses was taken at Koon Seng Road, Joo Chiat, Singapore.
