Banana Seller

H140xW140cm

Acrylic Painting, Silkscreen Printing & Stitchwork on Canvas

Little India was designated as an Indian ethnic enclave in early Singapore after other Indian settlements became too small to sustain an increasing number of immigrants. Shops sprung up to meet the needs of the growing Indian community. Some of these shops still remain today. Bright yellow bananas hung in a row greet you as you approach one such shop. Vegetables in fresh shades of green, red and purple are a delight to the senses.

The photograph used in this artwork was taken at Buffalo Road, Little India, Singapore.
