Surrounded on all sides by water, Singapore & its neighbouring islands are known for their brilliant turquoise tropical waters Water is viewed as the source of life and this is especially true for the legend of Singapore's founding.
The Prince of Palembang, Sang Nila Utama, was on a voyage of discovery. His ship encountered a fierce storm and was tossed about by huge waves. In desperation, he threw his crown overboard to appease the Lord of the Sea. The storm died down at once and the ship landed on Singapore’s shores.
