South China Seas

H140xW140cm

Acrylic Painting, Silkscreen Printing, Silk Applique & Stitchwork on Canvas

The South China Sea has also been used for more than a thousand years by the Chinese, Arabs and Portuguese as an important trade route. Before the age of aviation and air travel, immigrants from China seeking a better future would have to endure a treacherous voyage through the South China Sea and into the Straits of Singapore before landing in Singapore.

The cut silk fabric sewn onto the canvas represent broken pieces of porcelain - goods and lives that the ocean has claimed through the passage of time.
