Artwork Description
The idiom “every cloud has a silver lining” is a beautiful image, representing an attitude of finding the positive in any situation - no matter how challenging it might be.
Looking at the horizon line out at sea, there is often a thin silver line that reminds me of this idiom. A reminder to change my perspective and look out to see a bigger picture, there is always hope.
“Silver Lining” is a part of a series of artworks looking at the ships of Singapore.
Being one of the busiest ports in the world, this is a subject matter that is iconically Singapore.
In the waters of this artwork you will see blue & white porcelain patterns, this is a reminder that these are Southeast Asian waters.
Some of my earliest memories here in Singapore have to do with the astounding views of a sea filled with ships. At night when all the lights come on, they truly look like a city on the water.
The ships are a reminder that Singapore is a bustling international city constantly connected to other parts of the world. The ships come and go, reminding us of our own journey through life. From a distance these giant beauties are romanticised as they sail into the distance.
