Artwork Description
‘Kopi Time?’, this is a question that you will regularly be asked here in Singapore. Dotted all over the Island you will find local coffee shops, known as Kopitiams. In this artwork you can learn a bit of local lingo, and find out if you prefer a ‘kopi o’ to a ‘kopi c’. The background of the artwork is washed with colours of roasted coffee & strong tea. The traditional pattern found on the floors of Kopitiams is seen in the right corner. The iconic Kopitiam cup is now a rare find here in Singapore, to find one of these you will have to go on a little hunt into the older parts of town. The beautiful floral pattern from these kopi cups has been enlarged and recreated with silk applique.
The shophouse was photographed in Joo Chiat - Koon Seng Road. This particular street is the most photographed street in all of Singapore! It is here that you will find a whole row of these iconic, colourful heritage homes.
